Everything you need to know about CycleClick.
From the technology behind it to real-world use, we’ve collected the most common questions to help you get started.
Product Overview
What is CycleClick?
CycleClick is a compact, clip-on cycling power meter that makes professional-level performance data available to every rider. It measures real-time power, cadence, torque, calories burned, and balance, all without complicated installation. You just clip it onto any chain-driven bike in seconds, pair it with your cycling computer or app, and ride.
Who is the CycleClick power meter for?
CycleClick is for everyday cyclists, not just pros. Whether you’re training for a race, tracking fitness goals, commuting, or riding for fun, it gives you accurate, real-time performance data to ride smarter and improve over time.
How does CycleClick compare to other power meters?
Pedal-based meters (Favero, Garmin) require specific shoes/cleats, are more expensive, and need tools to install. Crank/spider-based meters (4iiii, Magene) require crank removal and aren’t easily swappable between bikes. CycleClick works with any bike, any pedals, any shoes, and moves between bikes instantly.
Why is CycleClick more affordable than other power meters?
We eliminated the costly, bike-specific hardware that traditional meters require. You get pro-level tech in a universal, portable design at a fraction of the price.
Is it the same as the Polar power meter? How is it different?
The power meter developed by Polar operated on the principle of a guitar pickup, detecting the frequency of a moving chain and interpreting it as power. Our device is fundamentally different because it directly measures chain tension using strain gauges and a chain speed sensor.
Is CycleClick patent-protected?
Yes. CycleClick has several pending patents.

Beta Tester: Quick Overview
Technology & Performance
How does CycleClick measure power?
It uses strain gauges to directly measure chain tension (torque) and a chain speed sensor to measure chain speed.
Power is calculated as:
Power (Watts) = Torque × Chain Speed
This method is accurate, consistent, and works regardless of which gear you’re in.
How does CycleClick measure cadence?
CycleClick measures cadence by detecting pedal position changes (using torque variation patterns during the pedal stroke) and combining this with chain speed from its toothed roller sensor. This allows it to calculate revolutions per minute (RPM) without needing a separate cadence sensor.
Can CycleClick measure left/right leg balance?
The base model measures total power. Left/right balance will be available later through an optional external sensor, offered first to Kickstarter backers.
Is CycleClick accurate in all conditions?
Yes. High-speed sampling (~200 Hz) and its strain gauge sensor with temperature compensation ensure consistent precision in heat, cold, and changing conditions.
Testing shows results closely match premium meters.
Will CycleClick slow me down or add drag?
No. The chain rollers make contact with the ridges inside the measuring channel of the device and roll along them. There are no other contact points - the channel does not touch the sides of the chain. Because the rollers roll (rather than slide) along the channel, friction is minimal.
This enables precise measurements with virtually no added resistance. The mechanism functions similarly to a bearing, where rolling contact ensures smooth, low-friction movement. Our beta testers consistently report no noticeable friction or noise as they ride.
Does lubrication or dirt affect performance?
Lubrication doesn’t affect the measurements - on the contrary, it actually improves the device’s performance. The principle is similar to how a bearing works. The metal channel of the device contacts only the top and bottom of the chain rollers, minimizing the amount of dirt that enters the channel. Additionally, the channel features special openings that allow any debris to escape.
How does CycleClick handle bumps or rough terrain?
A secure locking mechanism keeps it firmly in place, even on rough roads and trails.
Does CycleClick interfere with shifting?
Not at all. It connects to the derailleur via a ball-and-socket joint, allowing it to move freely with the chain when shifting gears.
When used with an electric bike, does CycleClick measure only the rider’s power, or the combined power from both the rider and the motor?
CycleClick can be used with electric-assist bicycles, and it will provide rider-specific data (power, cadence, etc.). In case of a mid-drive e-bike where the motor transfers power through the same chain as the rider’s legs, CycleClick will measure the combined power output.
With any other type of e-bike - where the motor delivers power separately from the chain, or uses its own chain - CycleClick will measure only the rider’s power.

Compatibility & Use
How long does the battery last?
One hour of USB-C charging provides up to 30 hours of riding. No coin-cell batteries or constant battery replacements.
Does CycleClick work with all bikes, and can I use it on multiple bikes?
CycleClick works with any chain-driven bicycle (except flat top chains): road, gravel, MTB, and commuter. Its tool-free clip-on design lets you swap it between bikes in seconds with no recalibration needed, and for 1x drivetrains, we provide a special mount for a perfect fit.
We haven’t tested CycleClick with single-speed bicycles yet.
Is it weatherproof and durable?
Yes! CycleClick is IP67 water-resistant, dust-proof, and built to handle rain, mud, and rough terrain. It’s shock- and vibration-resistant, made from lightweight metal and high-grade plastic. All the parts are epoxy sealed.
Does CycleClick connect to an iPhone or Apple Watch through Apple’s Fitness app?
CycleClick uses the same BLE protocols, as all other power meters, so yes, it will connect to iPhone and Apple Watch the same way other power meters do.
Will there be firmware updates?
Yes. Over-the-air updates will add new features, improve accuracy, and enable future integrations.
